Cristiano Ronaldo is English Player of The Year

Manchester United's winger/forward (right/left) Cristiano Ronaldo has won the Player of The Year acording to English Professional Footballers' Association. He beat off competition from Liverpool players, Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard, Arsenal players, Cesc Fabregas and Emmanuel Adebayor, also Portsmouth goalkeeper David James.

Having wins award for the second consecutive season after another outstanding campaign that saw him score 38 goals in all competitions, the Portugal international was also nomination for English Professional Footballers' Association Young Player of The Year where he was beaten by Arsenal 20 years old midfielder, Spain star Cesc fabregas.

Ronaldo did not attend the event, because he is busy preparing for a MU Champions League for the semi-final second phase clash with Barcelona on Tuesday night. The award received by the United manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

Ronaldo told the press that he had voted for Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor, but believes the right man would scoop the award.

He is now waiting for higher award since surely he will be nominated for European and World Player of The Year this season. He is also in campaign for three cups with his fellows in MU and Portugal; English Premiere League, Champions League and Euro Cup in the coming June.
