Laughing Club
In 1995 in Bombay, Dr. Madan Kataria, a Bombay physician, has decided to find out whether laughter is the best medicine. He convened a group of patients and neighbors to meet daily to laugh.
After a time, Dr. Kataria found that the participants lived better health and lower levels of stress. Although the scientific evidence is mixed and confused, Dr. Kataria clearly believes in the therapeutic effects of laughter.
Thus was born in India the phenomenon of laughter clubs. Since then, clubs have spread in Europe and the United States. Less than ten years later, there are now more than 1500 laughter clubs around the world, with over 450 in Bombay alone.
